Acrylic Tennis Courts

Acrylic and Cushioned Acrylic Tennis Courts

There are many brand names but the majority of these surfaces are the same.

Cushioned Acrylics are built up in layers.  In layman’s terms, the process is as follows:
  • A non porous court of a macadam type (It can be concrete) is initially built.
  • Upon this, several layers of resurfacer are squeegeed on to create a smooth and even surface.
  • Several layers of cushion coat are then squeegeed on to build in the degree of cushioning required.
  • Depending on the manufacturer, 2 or 3 colour coats are added.
  • Finally, the white tennis playing lines are painted on.

Non Cushioned Acrylic courts are what they say they are - they don’t have the intermediate cushion coats.

These type of courts are not pervious to water.  If built outdoors, they should be built with a more noticeable fall than on other surfaces.  They are, though, high performance courts used for major championships.

Neill has been installing these since 1988, travelling to many foreign locations.
